New Age Movement

No Absolute Morals?

What is the NAM? - Part 3

Why are we susceptible to NAM teachings?

Because there will always be Christians who "love the approval of men rather than God" (John 12:43); who integrate the world's ways with their Christian faith (James 1:27; 1 John 2:15; 4:4) or who are ignorant of the extent of spiritual warfare (Acts 20:28-34; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 6:12-18; 2 Peter 2:1; 1 John 4:l-3).

What can Christians do to combat NAM?

(i) become informed

"contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3).

"sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to EVERYONE who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness & reverence" (1 Peter 3:15)

"Examine everything carefully" and actively critique what is not sound, being "wise in what is good, and innocent in what is evil" (1 Thessalonians 5:23; Romans 16:19).

(v) Effectively prepare for spiritual warfare (
Ephesians 6:10-18) and use the Bible intelligently, "for the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit...and able to judge the thoughts and intents of the hearts" (Hebrews 4:12)

(vi)  Encourage your pastor to speak forcefully about these issues from the Bible.

(vii)  Realise that, just as with the cults, you are dealing with demonic deceptions that require prayer (
James 5:16), patience & courage (Joshua 1:7; 2 Timothy 2:24-26), the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.  They cannot be effectively defeated by human means.

(viii)  Love others & respect those who disagree with you, for in this way you will prove that you are a disciple of Christ (
John 13:35; 1 Corinthians 10:24,33; 13:13).

Holistic health and the NAM

Infatuation with 'holistic medicine' may be considered to be the "medical arm" of the NAM and it has invaded the medical world through a variety of unsound and/or potentially occultic practices such as:

Applied Kinesiology ("muscle testing"); Homeopathy (a diluting of herbs etc. for medical treatment); Iridology (medical inspection by examining the eye); Therapeutic Touch (an "experiences" form of "laying on of hands") - many others.

It must not be forgotten that treatments may work because of coincidental discovery of controlling nerves affected by the treatment, but there is also the possibility of occult power behind them. In "New Age Medicine" the authors Paul Reisser, M.D., Tern Reisser, and John Weldon list the following tests for NAM medical practices:

i) beware of therapies which claim to manipulate "invisible energy; "

ii) beware of those who seem to utilise psychic knowledge or power;

iii) beware of a practitioner who has a therapy with which no one else is familiar;

(iv) beware of someone who claims that their therapy will cure anything and everything;

v) beware of someone whose explanations do not make sense;

vi) beware of therapies whose only 'proof' consists of the testimonies of satisfied customers;

vii) beware of therapies which rely on altered states of consciousness;

viii) and finally realise that sincerity is no guarantee of legitimacy.

Parapsychology and the NAM

Parapsychology is the scientific study of occult phenomena (mediumism, poltergeists, "ghosts," psychic healing) and is forbidden in Deuteronomy 18.

NAM and world control

Many in the NAM have the same goals:

i) a one-world government;

ii) a one-world economic system;

iii) a one-world world culture where all education, religion and races are joined in   harmony, and

iv) a god-like ruler who will help to implement these changes.

This is why Robert Muller, the Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, wrote "New Genesis: The Shaping of a Global Spirituality" in which he states that a united world is not only possible - it is necessary. It is probably better to limit the use of the word conspiracy to the spiritual realm because there are many in the world who would endorse the ideas of "love, unity and brotherhood." However, because the NAM will not acknowledge the power of sin within the human heart & the reality of the devil and his power over man's affairs, then it is inevitable that ideas fostered by such as the NAM will eventually be used for blatantly evil purposes (ref. Revelation 12:9; 13:8,12,17).

Psychology and the NAM

Some schools of psychology, e.g. Humanistic, Jungian, Transpersonal (which stresses experiences psychologies) & scores of unconventional "fringe" psychotherapies, support the NAM philosophy and practice & many are viewing the "mystical experiences" as a principal vehicle in advancing into ancient occult "wisdom."

NAM relationship to witchcraft and Satanism

They hold to similar 'doctrines':

i) general agreement that
"all is one & all is God," and that we are our own gods.

ii) agree on personal use of both occult power & the spirit world;

iii) agree on rejection of absolute morality, including Christian values.

This is why witches and gurus, such as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh who stated,
"witchcraft constitutes … one of the greatest possibilities of human growth," are in agreement.

Do not expect to find an easily provable Satanic 'network' criss-crossing the world, although Christians expect spiritual collusion between demons. Satanic input clearly influenced Charles Manson, the "Son of Sam" killer David Berkowitz, and other serial killers who have been in contact with the occult..

Even some Satanists openly acknowledge this connection between them and the NAM, e.g. former military Colonel and Satanist, Dr. Michael Aquino, high priest of the church of Set, responded to the question
"Is Satanism the same as the New Age?", "Yes, but I would say we have a more precise grasp of what it actually is we are looking at here..., of what is actually happening here (in the new age)."

Are "spirit guides" dangerous?

These "loving" spirits, who call themselves "angels," ''aliens,'' or ''nature spirits,'' promote teachings that are immoral, anti-social, endorse occultism, some promote perverted rituals such as necrophilia (sex with corpses), and are clearly un-Biblical & prejudiced against Christ. Consider  the teachings of "Emmanuel," the demon who speaks through Pat Rodegast & whose writings appear in "Emmanuel's Book":

i) the permissibility & desirability of divorce in "incompatible" marriages;

ii) the possibility of "open manage" (adultery);

iii) the permissibility of abortion (a "useful act" when done" with willingness to learn'' for ''NOTHING in your human world is absolutely wrong");

iv) homosexuality & bisexuality is normal behaviour (they make no comment on the outbreak of AIDS);

v) demeans political leaders as sick & ignorant;

vi) disgustingly, teaches that the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust really CHOSE TO BE MURDERED IN ORDER TO GROW SPIRITUALLY;

vii) thus Hitler & Stalin should not be condemned too harshly, for they also are part of God.

Are these the teachings of good or evil "spiritual beings"?

Are they in any sense good ethical or moral codes? These are not exceptional - they are the teachings of all NAM spirits and it is no surprise to learn that they agree:

i) that God & man are one (see
Genesis 1-3);

ii) that faith in God is unnecessary (see
Hebrews 11:1);

iii) that Christ is man's "higher self" (see
John 3:16,18; Philippians 2:l-9)

iv) that death is "absolutely safe," merely a change without judgement (see
John 3:36; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:10-25).

Devices used by "spirit guides" to deceive NAM believers

The process of demon possession is rarely of the kind experienced by the Gaderene (Mark 5:1 & Luke 8:26) and others in the New Testament, but of the "witch of Endor" type (1 Samuel 28:7).

Thus the process of "spirit possession" is an essentially "positive," pleasurable, life-changing and power-inducing experience. Obviously this may remain so while the spirits want to make a good impression - in the long run, however, it is another story entirely.

Johanna Michaelsen once believed that she was serving God and Jesus by working for a psychic surgeon & at times experienced great joy and peace through her NAM practices. Her spirit guide even claimed to be Jesus. However, in the process of becoming a Christian she discovered that the spirit guide was a demon that had deceived her and "murderous demonic rage had been the spirit's reaction to my potential decision to accept Jesus Christ of Nazareth as who He is, rather that as I had come to think He should be."

Doreen Irvine was also startled to discover that the powers that she thought were part of everyone's "human potential", the powers that she had been used to summoning as part of her work as a witch and Satanist, were in fact within her and not outside as she had thought.

Medium Raphael Gasson believed that his "spirits" were those of the departed dead and that it was his duty, as a Spiritualist minister, to preach this "glorious truth" to mankind - that there was no death. His own "guide" attempted to kill him when it became obvious that he was out to denounce spiritualism.

We must remember that God judged and destroyed the Caananite civilisation explicitly for the idolatrous & occultic practices that had employed (
Deuteronomy 18; Joshua 1-3).

Do you remember "THE  CHRIST  IS  NOW HERE" adverts in 1982?

Benjamin Creme caused the uniting of three NAM groups through the Tara Foundation - but once again there was disappointment when they claimed that an Indian guru, who had flown to England (thus "brilliantly" fulfilling Revelation 1v7), was the "christ." In his book, "The Reappearance of the Christ," Creme stated typical NAM theology:

"The christ is not God, he is not coming as God ... He would rather that you didn't pray to him, but to God within you, which is also within him ... He said it himself. 'The kingdom of God is within you"' (p. 135).

Clearly, the Lord Jesus Christ did not return to earth, as all orthodox Christians realise, for the Bible makes it clear that:

Revelation 1:7BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. Even so. Amen.

Some suggested that the chaos caused by computer failures on January 1, 2000, would be the catalyst to usher in Antichrist's world government. God has something far more electrifying and unifying in mind: the Rapture. In our opinion, nothing else could unite Hindus. Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, atheists, communists, capitalists and everyone else--except the unspeakable terror caused by the sudden mass disappearance of millions of believers all over the world.  "Where did they go? Who took them? Will I be next?" That hysterical cry will be on everyone's lips--from cowering individuals to the bewildered United Nations meeting in emergency session. Most terrifying of all will be the question, "How can I escape when whoever took them comes back for more?" Almost no one will believe the Biblical Rapture has occurred, because of a "strong delusion" from God (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12).

The pre-tribulation Rapture, uniting the world in a common terror and grief, will offer the perfect opportunity for Satan to put his man, the Antichrist, into power. With God
's restraint lifted, all of Satan's power will be unleashed through Antichrist "in signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness" (v9-10). Antichrist may claim to be negotiating with an intergalactic council for the return of the missing. Should he promise that those who take his mark in hand or forehead would not be snatched from earth, multitudes would welcome that guarantee.

We believe that the Rapture (not the appearance of Antichrist and tribulation necessitating survivalist tactics) is the next event on the prophetic calendar, and that it must occur very soon. In the meantime, the "spirit of antichrist" is preparing the world and a false church for his appearing. Consider carefully what John has to say:

". try [test] the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world (1 John 4:1).

Many spirits are involved in a common anti-Christ agenda, speaking through many false prophets, both in the NAM and in the deceived church which has united with Rome, as we detail in the Rome and Ecumenism section.

The truly Bible-believing Christian has absolutes which give total confidence that God will work out his purpose in His timing, so that no believer may be deceived if he trusts in the Word of God and not the teachings and company of evil men:

1 Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals;

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals;"

2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ;

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap;

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

Titus 3:3 For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

In dealing with the New Age Cult, we are in reality dealing with spiritual warfare against the forces of darkness, and we are told by God to put on the whole armor of heaven so that we will be able to withstand the forces of Satan (
Ephesians 6:11).

There is no substitute in this conflict for knowledge of the Word of God and the proper use of the sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith to deflect all the flaming arrows of the evil one. The forces arrayed against us are great, the stakes are high: the souls of millions of people. But the promise of God stands sure, we can
"overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

Prepare yourself for spiritual combat, study and show yourself approved by God, a workman who won
*t need to blush with embarrassment, rightly interpreting the word of truth. And above all, lift the shield of faith declaring, "Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father." The Christian Church looks to that glorious moment when "the Sun of righteousness will arise with healing in His wings" (Malachi 4:2), and the former things of the cursed earth will pass away and God will make all things new.This is our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of the great God and Savior Jesus Christ - this is the hope of the Church and the hope of the ages.

We hope all Christians reading this account will pray for those gathered wilfully, or in ignorance, at 'Burning Man'

(Romans 1:18-32)  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  19  because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.  20  For since the creation of the world His inisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.  21  For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  22  Professing to be wise, they became fools,  23  and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.  24  Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them.  25  For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.  26  For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,  27  and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.  28  And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,  29  being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,  30  slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,  31  without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;  32  and, although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

'The Burning Man is a no-holds-barred New Age "Woodstock" style festival, where neo-pagans, wiccans, transvestite entertainers, and back-slidden Christians go into trance, perform rituals, burn sacrifices to pagan gods and goddesses, dance in the nude, engage in sex, and otherwise "express" themselves and become one with Gaia.

Attendees set up theme camps such as "Lost Vegas," "Motel 666," and "Crucifixion With a Celebrity" (where one can purchase a picture of a crucified obese Elvis). Hamburgers are sold by devil-worshippers at the McSatan cafe, and T-shirts are available that proudly proclaim, "Praise The Whore."

The Burning Man itself is a 40-foot-high effigy of the "Spirit Cave Man" (sacred to local Indians and New Agers) which is torched, together with just about everything else, at the close of the festivities.

George Otis Jr., president of The Sentinel Group (a Christian research agency), attended the Burning Man festival with a colleague. He wrote of the experience:

On Saturday night, the hell-themed [festival] reached its crescendo in the form of a drama....These people were literally celebrating the fact that one day they would enter hell. To simulate their journey, the camp's center stage was transformed into the "Vestibule of Hell." The guest of honor was none other than "Papa Satan."....As the lecherous Papa Satan bowed in mock chains before a placard reading "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved," a group called "Idiot Flesh," [supposedly Christians] dressed as hooded executioners, began to play a discordant dirge accompanied by flashing strobes. When the crowd started its torchlight procession toward the Gates of Hell and an eerie, sculpted castle called The City of Dis, I sensed an unmistakable chill in the air. Our march had been joined by unseen, malevolent guests .… nudist and a moving sea of devil banners [also] moved around us .… At the tri-tower City of Dis, our descent into the Inferno reached a demonic sanctuary … While massive loudspeakers pumped out a hellish bass tone accompanied by tormented screams ...people dressed as demonic insects celebrated by copulating with other captured souls. It was a scene that looked as if it had been plucked from a horrific nightmare. Mesmerized by the evocative music, the performers began to chant, "Devil's delight, fire tonight!" Wood piles inside the towers of Dis were ignited, causing orange flames to belch forth from the eyes and mouths of demonic gargoyles built onto the turrets. As the heat became more intense, the entourage danced around the towers. Satan had defeated the church. (read the whole Otis article)

Otis continued the report by confessing, "I had to remind myself that what I had witnessed at the Burning Man Festival was happening right here in the United States--not in the temples of India or the deserts of Sinai."

Otis also admits that he met many friendly, creative and intelligent people at the Burning Man festival, and he encourages believers to contend for such lost souls in prayer.

A spirit of mysticism has been present in the United States for generations. Like an insidious cancer--unseen, patient, deadly--it has grown. Indications of its presence have been felt occasionally, and confirmations of its actuality have been documented from Washington D.C. to Portland Oregon.

One can trace old city-name origins, such as Ceres, Alexandria, Mars, Fortuna, and Media, and discover the early influence of Burning Man-like mysticism within the United States.

By looking at sites such as the House of the Temple, the home office of Scottish Rite Freemasonry, one discovers early versions of Burning Man-like occultism. Located several blocks from the White House on 16th Street in Washington D.C., the House of the Temple contains eight candelabrum fashioned after Hermes, the "god of light," as well as various other artworks reminiscent of the Temple of Dionysus. Statues of the goddesses, Isis and Nephthys, stand hallowed inside.

Down the street and around the corner one finds additional evidence of Burning Man-like mysticism: an enormous obelisk (phallic Egyptian symbol of fertility) known as the Washington Monument.

From there one travels across country to Portland, Oregon, where a huge statue ("Portlandia") indicative of the goddess Hecate stands overshadowing the entrance to the City of Portland Office buildings. On the Portland City Seal, "Lady Commerce" holds a trident under a six-pointed star. Both are important instruments of Hecatian witchcraft.

To the South, in California, Athene (Minerva), the manly goddess of war, greets humans with a prominant position on the Great Seal of the State of California. Other states boasting similar Great Seals and goddesses include New York (Liberty and Justice); Oklahoma (Themis); New Jersey (Ceres and Liberty); and Florida.

Even the Great Seal of the United States depicts an array of equally abstruse symbols, including an unfinished Egyptian pyramid overshadowed by the "All-Seeing Eye" and bearing the cryptic phrase, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, "A new order of the ages."

As we approach the culmination of the "new order of the ages," cult experts forecast a staggering revival of idolatry and eastern mysticism. As church attendance declines across the United States, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Theosophists, Christian Scientists, and Burning Man-like adherents, expand to meet the desires and mystical interests of Americans. Tarot card reading is at an all-time high. Psychic phone lines are jammed with over $300 million in calls per year, and celebrities like LaToya Jackson and Dionne Warwick lend credibility to psychic consultations. Even the U.S. Government showed interest in such phenomena. During the 1995 budget cuts, the C.I.A. was forced to release a $20 million project ("Operation Stargate") aimed at studying the usefulness of psychics in gathering military secrets from foreign powers.

The wives of two U.S. Presidents, Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton, were subject to public examination after it was discovered they consulted with astrologers and psychics. Hillary Clinton went so far as to channel "conversations" with the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt.

The obvious widespread interest in such paranormal activity substantiates what New Age expert Judy Vorfeld says: "Dabbling in the realm of the occult is currently stylish. Even some Christians seem unable to avoid the attraction of this colorful, seductive world."

The colorful seduction of mysticism is reaching into every fiber of our culture. From Burning Man festivals to public school Environmental Education to faddish television good-guys, today's generation is bombarded with a New Age Occultianity (western Christian beliefs mixed with occultism) that popularize the supernatural. Beloved comic book hero's such as "Spawn" teach our youth the dangerous Persephonian idea that a person can be in league with the devil, and still be a good person. Such doctrines of "harmonizing duality" are extremely popular (comics of Spawn have sold over 100 million copies) and blend nicely with the syncretistic goals of the Burning Man Movement.

Americans must realize that powerful and ancient entities are behind such anti-Christian activities. In the air above and the earth beneath are nefarious progenitors of Burning Man mysticism. "Gods" to some and "demons" to others, such forces have numerous titles. They can appear in hideous forms or as beautiful angels of light ... As the "gods and goddesses" of the underworld, they live today and encourage mysticism among pagans, witches, New Agers, church-goers, and Burning Man participants … By whatever names they may otherwise be called, the underworld spirits elevated in the Burning Man festival are gathering the combined efforts of the kingdom of Satan into a conspiracy of apocalyptic proportions. As a consequence,

We are experiencing an unprecedented revival of paganism at a time when the United States is considered the most advanced economic and technological power in the world.

Why is the Burning Man growing in popularity? There is an ominous answer. Billy Graham [
TCE: himself deceived by participation in alliances with Ahabic figures, ref. 2 Chronicles 18] declared: "Lucifer, our archenemy, controls one of the most powerful and well-oiled war machines in the universe. He controls principalities, powers, and dominions. Every nation, city, village, and individual has felt the hot breath of his evil power. He is already gathering the nations of the world for the last great battle in the war against Christ - Armageddon."

Defeat awaits the real Burning Man.
"And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever" (Rev. 20:10).'
