Subject:  Only Catholics have a Thaumaturgus history, but not Protestants

I think you should look into the lives of the Saints. They fit in with St. John 14:12 on miracles. All Saints perform miracles and are an example of the fulfillment of what is said in this verse. Only Catholics are Christians. Protestants are heretics and have no miracles like the Christians. Through mystical theology, hagiography, ascetical theology, and Lectio Divina, the Saint realizes that to gain an access from beyond the threshold of magnitude - from beyond Angled space; one must be in touch with authentic spiritual forces. Catholic Saints and Padre Pio are a prime example. Padre Pio was the most photographed and famous man in the world at his time, he died in 1968. He performed so many miracles, healings, resurrections, cured the blind, - he bilocated numeorus times and flew overlarge crowds of people - while going to enter the Tribunal of the Confessional. His levitations were truly astounding and that of the Saints. During WII he flew into the sky and stopped allied bombers from dropping bombs on Rotondo Italy, the flight commanders were forced to report on base that their airplanes were being turned automatically back and that the bombs dropped by themselves into the woods undetonated - while the planes were being turned back. They also reported seeing a bearded Monk waving his hands in the mid air and telling them to stop.  Commander Bob Currie later paid him a visit and more fantastic occurrences and events happened. In a famous case, he restored sight to a girl born blind, Gemma de Giorgio in 1947. She was born without pupils and still has none, and it is scientifically and anatomically impossible to see without pupils. She is 72 years old and world class expert doctors have examined her  from her youth till now call her case inexplicable.

Catholics are 'an advancement of the human potential'. We know what it means to really be human. To be a human becoming. We do not try to impress anybody with numbers or with what we know - but we show[ed] by doing.

The Bodies of the Saints don't rot or corrupt. Infact - the Church has the bodies of many Saints on display, uncorrupted and hundreds of years old even thousands. Padre Pio and the Saints often traversed great distances in their physical and mystical flights and travels all over the world. They were swift and agile, increasing the fame of Christ to exceeding magnitude. To gain a greater access to the powers from  beyond magnitude, one must be in tune with the authentic powers from beyond Angled space and interdimensional forces. For to gain the forces, there are only 2 sources for that - Good or Evil. Please be advised that psychics and others beyond the pale of the Catholic Church - have attained the Critical Faculty through possession by the Evil intellects of hyperspace. These hyperspacial beings assist their servants to their doom, but it is not worth it. The authentic intellects and consciousnesses are good and help those who are severely adept at the ascetic life. Padre Pio felt the pains of the 'inferno regions'. He so acutely felt it that it was so absolutely indescribable and inconceivable. As a test, if you want to see the forces on display, go inquire and get some sodomites (Homos), ask whether they are willing to have a mass exorcism performed on them. Sodomites in all their varieties and forms are possessed by the demon of Lust. I have an Exorcist that is ready to drive these Evil spirits out of their bodies. During Exorcisms, Exorcists talk to these spirits and gain pertinent information from them. Padre Pio was a mystic, prophet, ascetic, mind reader, levitator, Thaumaturgus, seer, bilocator, and wonderworker on a world wide scale.

Lord Jesus Christ said:

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do.(John 14:12) That's a pretty amazing claim. Lord Jesus Christ says his followers will not only do the miracles he did, but even greater ones! Jesus changed water to wine, raised men from the dead, and made blind men see. Jesus says his followers will do those and even greater works. So… where are they?Where are the Christians making blind men see? Raising men who have been dead for days? What about greater things -- something like, say, having an amputee grow a limb back? No takers? (Only Catholic Saints have done this) Does this mean no True Christians really exist? Protestants, of course, are quite willing to make this verse mean something entirely different -- because if it were true, they couldn't call themselves followers of Christ. So many interpret "greater works" to mean "bring salvation." That is, they can convert more people than Jesus. Doesn't that just adulterate Jesus' meaning? But what else can they do?(Also, this doesn't necessarily help them -- does this mean they are not Christians unless they can draw greater crowds than Jesus?) They certainly can't take Jesus literally -- they can only take him literally when it fits their little box. When it doesn't, the meaning must be changed. They'll insist on taking Genesis literally, but when it comes to obviously literal teaching, they'll turn it on its head.So much for consistency and "rightly dividing the word of God."

What is the purpose of miracles? The miracle working St. Thomas Aquinas defined a miracle as an effect produced by God in the bodily universe, outside the order of created nature. According to The Catholic Encyclopedia (1911 edition) miracles occur as"evidences attesting and confirming the truth of a divine mission, or of adoctrine of faith or morals…." Therefore, a supernatural miracle is an event that occurs outside of the normal course of nature, often superceding the natural laws. Miracles can give the divine stamp of authority to the mission of a man chosen by God and always serve as a testament to the soundness of one or more doctrines of the Catholic Faith. Or, as Cardinal Pie (a famous nineteenth century defender of the Faith) once said, "Now for the conversion of the people the thaumaturgus [miracle worker] is more powerful than the teacher;and, consequently, in the memory and worship of the people, the teacher is eclipsed and effaced by the thaumaturgus." Our Lord promised that miracles would testify to the truth of His Gospel (Mark 16:17-18). After this promise of His, we are told: "But they going forth preached everywhere: the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs that followed"(Mark 16:20). St. Paul uses the argument from miracles when he relates of the Apostles that: "God [was] bearing them witness by signs and wonders and diverse miracles and distributions of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will" (Hebrews 2:4). The argument from miracles is found also in the writings of the Fathers. Chapters 8 to 10 of Book XXII of St. Augustine's City of God are a good example of this. God suspends the laws of His own making in order to testify to the supernatural origin of His Church. All the miracles of Pio of Pietrelcina are, therefore, proofs of the divine origin of the Catholic Faith. Miracles are regarded as the indispensable mark of the divine, and as the sign of the prophetic vocation.

To establish connection, vigorous and vivifying, with theOUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, it is of necessity to pray the 15 Decade Most HolyRosary assiduously, perennially, whilst advancing rapidly in magnitudes ofvirtue and Mystery.

Regarding the Holy Rosary, thereal Sister Lucia told Father Fuentes in a famous1957 interview:

"Look, Father, the Most HolyVirgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to therecitation of the Holy Rosary. She has given this efficacy to such an extentthat there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whethertemporal or above all, spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, ofour families, of the families of the world, or of the religious communities, oreven of the life of peoples and nations that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannotresolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary. With the Holy Rosary, we will saveourselves. We will sanctify ourselves. We will console Our Lord and obtain thesalvation of many souls."

Dear Kelly

thank you for taking the time and effort to inform us of your concerns over the matters in your e-mail.

We have received many e-mails from Catholics of various persuasions over a considerable number of years and are currently busy endeavouring to place a large cross section of these - with our replies - on the website.

Hopefully this will prevent the many repeated 'challenges' which we have received - and save us time too!

To ensure an adequate reply we will respond appropriately in the next 1-6 weeks sending you the relative links to matters you have brought up.

We may also reply to the peripheral issues you introduce in your mail in a similar time frame.

We ask for your patience in the meanwhile.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit,

There is no such thing as Catholics of 'various' persuasions: we are united in doctrine, worship, and government. One either acccepts the dogmas of the Church (such as: the Triunity of God, the Immaculate Conception, etc.,) or they don't. One is Catholic by submitting to the dogmas of the Church. Rejecters of any single dogma are struck with Latae Sententiae, regardless of whether or not these sectarians openly identify as Catholics. The Church is divinely kept from the possibility of error by the Holy Spirit, in Her dogmatic pronouncements. When you say there are "various" persuasions, that's due to your Portestant bias.

Only Catholics have an undeniable history (and still do) of the Gift of Miracles (a sign of holiness). The miraculous cures and events are declared genuine by a board of physicians, experts, scientists, all of whom are non-Catholic (and the most eminent in their fields). The Church is tremendously overflowing (even to this day) with scientifically verified miracles. Since Protestants obviously don't have a 'heritage' of miracles, and also due to Protestant bias, they will choke all the undeniable evidence as either demonic power or fraud. Protestants just simply don't believe miracles happen, and reject Jesus Christ's clear promise to His Church regarding miracles; since they notice the miracles are not being fulfilled in them.

As mentioned in my last email, Padre Pio cured 7 year old Gemma de Giorgio in 1947 of her blindness (one of many thousands he's cured of blindness). She was born without pupils and without pupils it is a scientific fact that one cannot see. She was taken to Padre Pio by her relatives, in the sight of crowds of people. When Padre Pio gave her, her eye sight, she still had no pupils and still doesn't to this day; but she sees. She has been examined by world expert doctors ever since her youth and they call her condition inexplicable. Padre Pio was the most famous, photographed, and video recorded person in the world at his time. Padre Pio ascended to the hights of perfection truly, and he had the gifts of some of the greatest Saints in the history of the world. The Saints alone and their miracles disprove the erroneous beliefs of Protestantism.

All Saints perform miracles ...Only Catholics are Christians ... Protestants are heretics and have no miracles like the Christians!

You write:  I think you should look into the lives of the Saints. They fit in with St. John 14:12 on miracles. All Saints perform miracles and are an example of the fulfillment of what is said in this verse.  Only Catholics are Christians. Protestants are heretics and have no miracles like the Christians.

TCE:  Of course by 'Saints' you mean Papal Roman Catholics?  Apart from the fact that all Christians are 'saints' [Greek hagios - meaning 'sacred, pure (physically), morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated, most holy one, saint'], as the New Testament (e.g. Acts and Ephesians) makes clear, it is a fact that most groups you consider to be 'Protestants' also claim miracles to some extent or other.  So, by your reasoning, all people calling themselves Christians and performing miracles are 'saints' and true Christians - i.e. Roman Catholics!  Your claim is clearly dangerous, un-Biblical nonsense and would make the infamous 'Simon the Sorcerer' a Papal Roman Catholic!  Read Acts 8:9-25:

'But there was a certain man,
Simon by name, who beforetime in the city used sorcery, and amazed the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is that power of God which is called Great. And they gave heed to him, because that of long time he had amazed them with his sorceries. But when they believed Philip preaching good tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. And Simon also himself believed: and being baptized, he continued with Philip; and beholding signs and great miracles wrought, he was amazed. Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. But Peter said unto him, Thy silver perish with thee, because thou hast thought to obtain the gift of God with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right before God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray the Lord, if perhaps the thought of thy heart shall be forgiven thee. For I see that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity. And Simon answered and said, Pray ye for me to the Lord, that none of the things which ye have spoken come upon me.  They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans'.

We examined the history in detail on
this page under the heading:

'Once Saved Always Saved' means you can wilfully sin?

and showed how Simon failed to repent and resumed his occultic career, even facing Peter again and, after levitating to prove his power, was brought crashing to earth by the apostle.

To further crush your false idea that 'miracles' are the proof we should be looking for to prove which is the true religion read our article on
this page under the heading:

The Bible is not the sole authority in matters of faith?

Now, onto your next claim:

Catholic Saints use 'authentic spiritual forces: Mystical theology, hagiography, ascetical theology & Lectio Divina'?

You write:  Through mystical theology, hagiography, ascetical theology, and Lectio Divina, the Saint realizes that to gain an access from beyond the threshold of magnitude - from beyond Angled space; one must be in touch with authentic spiritual forces. Catholic Saints and Padre Pio are a prime example.

TCE:  The monastic tradition in which the discipline of self-denial (for the purpose of refining the soul by denying the flesh) is supposedly drawn from the Biblical commandment to deny oneself and follow Christ. Self-abnegation, of the kind that 'St Jerome' participated in, took many forms, such as fasting, chastity, celibacy, constant prayer, physical separation from the world, and renunciation of worldly possessions. But in asceticism these forms were carried to their limits, involving self-deprivation, flagellation, and the wearing of hair shirts and chains. Ascetics claimed there was a correlation between these practices and the acquisition of holiness and miraculous powers so that it was seen as a work of supererogation, doing more than the minimum demands of the gospel in order to attain perfection on earth.  The 'Fathers of the Desert' claimed to have found that asceticism was a means of loving and uniting with the Godhead more perfectly and that it was possible to attain unbroken union with the holy God of the Bible.  Penitential and devotional asceticism was popularized by Papal Rome's mendicant orders who produced ascetic literature that leads people astray to this day.  As we have explained elsewhere, the Reformation did not reform Luther, Calvin, et al, far enough so that asceticism continued to be embraced by both Catholics and some Protestants (e.g. 'extreme' Lutherans) and, again in recent years, makes sporadic returns among 'the ignorant and unstable' (2 Peter 3v16).  Among Papal Roman Catholics, ascetic 'heroes', such as St. John of the Cross, Peter of Alcantara, and Cure d'Ars continued the tradition of the 'Fathers of the Desert'.  Among Protestants, both Puritans and Methodists spawned religious communities in England and the United States which sporadically revived these false teachings.

Even in recent years we have visited supposedly 'Protestant' churches (they certainly turned out to be churches and not
ekklesiae, genuine places of orthodox worship!)  who allowed 'St. Julian of Norwich' to be quoted approvingly and who resented being informed of the truth about this mystic of Papal Rome.

Julian of Norwich - just one of many heretical Papal mystics!

Julian of Norwich (1342-1423), who one of your many heretical monks, Catholic-Buddhist-Universalist Thomas Merton (who promoted the integration of Zen Buddhism with Christianity - amongst many heresies) called "the greatest of the English mystics," claimed to experience a series of sixteen intense visions which she described in her writings.  She was an extreme ascetic, an anchoress (or
anchorite) who walled herself off from society for 20 years, living in a tiny cell with one small window that gave her a view of a Catholic altar and the Eucharistic host of the Mass and also allowed food to be passed to her.  Apparently, her position is derived from 'cloistering' herself forever inside this small stone 'anchorage' built adjoining the outer wall of the sanctuary.  It reminds us of the Hindu mystical gurus who determine to flagellate themselves in a variation on this false practice and either clench their fist determinedly until their finger nails grow through the palm of the hand and out the back of the hand (!), or sleep in hammocks above the ground and attach increasingly heavy weights to their penis until it is stretched as thin and useless as thick string and they can barely urinate (some even pull heavy vehicles with the all but useless appendage and allow Hindu women to venerate their sad organ in a display that is meant to demonstrate that they are now 'so holy' that all sexual approaches are totally resistible!).  Obviously, the Hindu gurus who suffer the loss of the use of one hand make their common living as beggars easier - and work impossible (never mind that they sponge off the poor, low caste Hindus who are trying to do good works to attain a better re-incarnation next time around).  And the gurus with the penis problem are also given plenty to eat in the same way - and are obviously incapable of ever having a family, never mind supporting one!

So, allow this logical and Scriptural fact to permeate your mind - there is absolutely nowhere in the Bible that you will find any exhortation for any Christian to deliberately subject themselves to such practices - or those of Julian of Norwich.  Should we show admiration for such a life?  What has it achieved? What did the Lord Jesus Christ exhort His disciples to involve themselves in most?

Matthew 28:19-20 - Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

Selfishly concentrating on achieving the 'perfect holy life' while others bring food to you and,  in a convent of the Papal Roman Catholic cult, doubtlessly hold you in the highest esteem (and probably worship you as they do the other 'Saints'!), is obviously ignoring Paul's inspired advice to those who thought Christ was returning soon so they could do as they liked:

2 Thessalonians 3:6-15 - Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which they received of us. For yourselves know how ye ought to imitate us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
neither did we eat bread for nought at any man's hand, but in labour and travail, working night and day, that we might not burden any of you: not because we have not the right, but to make ourselves and ensample unto you, that ye should imitate us. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat. For we hear of some that walk among you disorderly, that work not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well-doing. And if any man obeyeth not our word by this epistle, note that man, that ye have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed.  And yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

The fact that Julian had a window looking onto the Papish altar is significant, for she was clearly indulging in another Papal Roman Catholic error and venerating the host as Christ.  Her heretical visions are described in 'The Showings', or 'Revelations of Divine Love' and were recorded in the first book known to have been written by a woman in English.  She claimed to have witnessed Christ's sufferings on the cross and her visions also exalt Mary in the usual un-Scriptural popish manner.
She held many heresies that are 'strangely' very common to mystics who indulge their fantasies of 'saintly' holiness as she did. She believed that God and Jesus are our Mother, that God lives in all men, that God is all things and is in all things, that sin is not shameful but honourable, and that God has no wrath!  She said, "God rejoices that he is our Mother," addressed Christ as "Very Mother, Jesus", and her most famous saying is a positive confession mantra: "All is well, and every kind of thing will be well." This statement is true for the born again child of God who is walking in God's will (Romans 8:28), but it certainly not true for the unsaved and for those who are walking in disobedience to God. It is more akin to a New Age mantra, which denies the fall and man's separation from God and God's holy justice and salvation by substitutionary atonement, than a proper expression of Christian doctrine.

Further examples of her confused, rambling, heretical statements:

Highly ought we to rejoice that God dwelleth in our soul, and much more highly ought we to rejoice that our soul dwelleth in God. Our soul is
made to be God's dwelling-place; and the dwelling-place of the soul is God, Which is unmade. And high understanding it is, inwardly to see and know that God, which is our Maker, dwelleth in our soul; and an higher understanding it is, inwardly to see and to know that our soul, that is made, dwelleth in God's Substance: of which Substance, God, we are that we are.

And I saw no difference between God and our Substance: but as it were all God; and yet mine understanding took that our Substance is in God: that is to say, that God is God, and our Substance is a creature in God. For the Almighty Truth of the Trinity is our Father: for He made us and keepeth us in Him; and the deep Wisdom of the Trinity is our Mother, in Whom we are all enclosed; the high Goodness of the Trinity is our Lord, and in Him we are enclosed, and He in us. We are enclosed in the Father, and we are enclosed in the Son, and we are enclosed in the Holy Ghost. And the Father is enclosed in us, and the Son is enclosed in us, and the Holy Ghost is enclosed in us: Almightiness, All-Wisdom, All-Goodness: one God, one Lord.

For in our
Mother Christ we profit and increase, and in Mercy He reformeth us and restoreth, and, by the virtue of His Passion and His Death and Uprising, oneth us to our Substance. Thus worketh our Mother in Mercy to all His children which are to Him yielding and obedient.

For the first, I understood that the high Might of the Trinity is our Father, and
the deep Wisdom of the Trinity is our Mother, and the great Love of the Trinity is our Lord: and all this have we in Nature and in the making of our Substance.

And furthermore I saw that
the Second Person, which is our Mother as anent the Substance, that same dearworthy Person is become our Mother as anent the Sense-soul. For we are double by God's making: that is to say, Substantial and Sensual. Our Substance is the higher part, which we have in our Father, God Almighty; and the Second Person of the Trinity is our Mother in Nature, in making of our Substance: in whom we are grounded and rooted. And He is our Mother in Mercy, in taking of our Sense-part. And thus our Mother is to us in diverse manners working: in whom our parts are kept undisparted. For in our Mother Christ we profit and increase, and in Mercy He reformeth us and restoreth, and, by the virtue of His Passion and His Death and Uprising, oneth us to our Substance. Thus worketh our Mother in Mercy to all His children which are to Him yielding and obedient.

Thus Jesus Christ that doeth good against evil is our Very Mother: we have our Being of Him, where the Ground of Motherhood beginneth, with all the sweet Keeping of Love that endlessly followeth. As verily as God is our Father, so verily God is our Mother; and that shewed He in all, and especially in these sweet words where He saith: I it am. That is to say, I it am, the Might and the Goodness of the Fatherhood; I it am, the Wisdom of the Motherhood; I it am, the Light and the Grace that is all blessed Love: I it am, the Trinity, I it am, the Unity: I am the sovereign Goodness of all manner of things. I am that maketh thee to love: I am that maketh thee to long: I it am, the endless fulfilling of all true desires.

Our high Father, God Almighty, which is Being, He knew and loved us from afore any time: of which knowing, in His marvellous deep charity and the foreseeing counsel of all the blessed Trinity,
He willed that the Second Person should become our Mother. Our Father [willeth], our Mother worketh, our good Lord the Holy Ghost confirmeth: and therefore it belongeth to us to love our God in whom we have our being: Him reverently thanking and praising for our making, mightily praying to our Mother for mercy and pity, and to our Lord the Holy Ghost for help and grace.

And furthermore I saw that the Second Person, which is our Mother as anent the Substance, that same dearworthy Person is become our Mother as anent the Sense-soul.

This utterly confused, rambling garbage is meant to reflect the holiness of a mystic of Papal Rome?  Incredibly, we find contemporary mystics raving about this effluent garbage, claiming it is the fullest expression of 'the concept of the femininity of God' and the heretical belief that 'God is really our Mother as he is Father'.

Those who hate the God of the Bible rejoice that Julian's demonic rambling asserts that there is no wrath in God and thus they fool themselves that they can avoid judgement and Hell!

Nowhere does Scripture declare that God
is all things or that God is in all things as demonised Julian declares.  This is nothing more than pantheism and panentheism which Eastern religions specialise in.  God created all things; He is aware of all things; He is in ultimate control of all things; He cares and provides for all things; all things consist by Him (Colossians 1:17).  There is nowhere we can flee from His Spirit (Psalm 139:7); but He is not IN all things in the manner deceived Julian declares in many rambling  statements.  Can people not see the simple logic by thinking it through - if God is in everything then He is also in Satan, demons, and all evil!

The believer sees the glory of God in the creation (Romans 1:20), but God does not flow
into us from the creation nor is God in the creation itself.  To claim such things is blatant heresy.

How even John Calvin was deceived into believing doctrines not derived from Scripture!

Even a supposedly 'great theologian', by the name of John Calvin (born July 10, 1509, in Noyon, France, as Jean Chauvin), was deceived into believing un-Scriptural doctrines.  People forget that Calvin was a devoutly religious Roman Catholic born into a family of prominence in an ecclesiastical town dominated by the local bishop and his assisting priests.  As secretary and legal advisor to the bishop, Jean's father, Gerald, was an inside participant in a corrupt, religion-based political system.  Papish nepotism meant that young Jean was on the Church payroll from the age of twelve, remaining on it for thirteen years - until one year after his apparent conversion to Luther's 'Protestantism'.  So, from his earliest years, Jean was the beneficiary of an ungodly partnership between the civil and religious authorities, who held the common people in bondage - a partnership dominated by the Church of Rome.
And it was a pattern that he would later implement as a "Protestant" with even greater efficiency in Geneva, Switzerland, including church dominance in civil affairs, and persecution and even execution of those accused of heresy.  As we have written in other places Calvin, like Luther, never 'Reformed' far enough.

Upon entering the Collège de La Marche at the University of Paris, Jean's love of Latin was reflected in his registration as Johannes Calvinus and he worked diligently, spending very long hours in compulsive study that had detrimental effects upon his health in later years and possibly shortened his life. He was known for his deep Catholic piety and blunt rebukes of his friends' morals. Quite unexpectedly, in 1528, Jean's father, Gerald, was excommunicated  from the Roman Catholic Church. Shortly thereafter, Calvin's brother, a priest, was also excommunicated for heresy.  As a result, Gerald ordered young Calvin, who was studying for the priesthood of Rome, to Orléans for the study of law.  Calvin later explained, "My father had intended me for theology from my childhood. But [since] the law proved everywhere very lucrative for its practitioners, the prospect suddenly made him change his mind."  This new pursuit became the young man's passion and possibly laid some of the foundation for the legalism that was later to become so pervasive in the system of theology that he would thereafter develop. After earning a Bachelor of Laws in 1531 (he would later be granted a doctorate in law), Jean - now Johannes (John) - returned to Paris, immersed himself in a passionate study of classical literature, and published his first piece of writing, a Latin essay on
Seneca's De Clementia. Historian Will Durant says that John, still a devout Roman Catholic, "seemed dedicated to humanism, when some sermons of Luther reached him and stirred him with their audacity."  (Will Durant, The Story of Civilization, New York: Simon and Schuster, 1950)

Calvin belonged to a circle of young humanist intellectuals who were urging reform of the Church along the lines of Luther's bold rebellion against the Pope and, by January 1534, though not yet a full-fledged 'Protestant', Calvin had become vocal enough in support of Luther's ideas that he was forced to flee Paris. Finding refuge in the town of Angoulême, he began to write his voluminous classic,
Institutes of the Christian Religion and, in a remarkable feat of writing, finished the first small edition the following year (August 1535, published March 1536 - later he enlarged it to five times the size of the original and had it published in French).  It is noteworthy that he never made any radical departure from any of the doctrines set forth in the first edition and this completed by his 26th year!

Contemporary Calvinists avoid the uncomfortable fact that in all of his voluminous writings, Calvin never makes any claim of being born again through faith in Christ and clearly considered himself to have been a Christian from the moment of his Roman Catholic infant baptism, for he wrote:

"…at whatever time we are baptised, we are washed and purified once for the whole of life…we must recall…our baptism…so as to feel certain and secure of the remission of sins…it wipes and washes away all our defilements."  (Calvin,
Institutes, IV: xv, 3)

He trusted in his infant baptism as proof that he was one of the elect (
ibid., 1-6; xvi, 24, etc) and denounced all who, like today's evangelical ex-Catholics, were baptized after believing the gospel (which is the only fully Scriptural baptism!). Those saved out of Catholicism and baptized as believers were known as Anabaptists and were persecuted by Catholics, Lutherans, and Calvinists!  As Christians who recognise Anabaptists as one of the strongest Christian groups to survive persecution by Papal Rome (and then the Lutherans, Calvinists and Anglicans!) we have no affiliation with any of them.  Of such, near the time of his supposed conversion to Luther's Protestantism, Calvin wrote:

"One should not be content with simply killing such people, but should burn them cruelly."  (Roland Bainton, Michel Servet, heretique et martyr , Geneva: Iroz 1953, p152-153, quoting letter of February 26, 1533, now lost).  Calvin banished many from Geneva but had at least 63 burnt at the stake - including Unitarian Michel Servetus (see this page) - in true Papal Roman Catholic 'Tradition'.

Today's born-again and baptized former Catholics consider Calvin to be hardly better than the popes they escaped from and certainly not a genuine, born-again Christian.  And this simply from examining the evidence.

John Trolliet, a city notary, was one of many who criticized Calvin's view of predestination for "making God the author of sin" and suffered at the hands of this heretic as a result.  But the evidence that he was correct in his accusation is clear (as we have written in other places).  The Geneva court decreed that "thenceforward no one should dare to speak against this book [Institutes] and its doctrine." (Laurence M. Vance, The Other Side of Calvinism, Pensacola, FL: Vance Publications, rev. ed. 1999, p201) Thus the freedom of conscience that these 'Protestants' promised would replace the popes' intolerable oppression was shown to be a myth!

So the record shows that Calvin was a young man, far from mature in the Christian faith who even wrote:

"I was greatly astonished that, before a year passed [after he left the Roman church], all those who had some desire for pure doctrine betook themselves to me in order to learn, although I myself had done little more than begin" (Calvin, Institutes, IV: xx, 2)

Unquestionably, his Institutes could not possibly have come from a deep and fully developed evangelical understanding of Scripture, but from the energetic enthusiasm of a recent law graduate and fervent student of philosophy and religion, a young zealot devoted to Augustine (who was himself a heretic and responsible for the development of the vile Inquisition) and a newly adopted cause.  As Will Durant correctly commented:

[As] a lad of twenty-six, he completed the most eloquent, fervent, lucid, logical, influential, and terrible work in all the literature of the religious revolution.... He carried into theology and ethics the logic, precision, and severity of Justinian's Institutes and gave his own masterpiece a similar name.  (Calvin,
Institutes, IV: xx, 3)

At the time of writing his
Institutes, Calvin, far from being a mature apostle like Paul, was at best a brand-new convert and, in his writing, he sought to use his brilliant legal mind to make up for what he lacked in spiritual maturity and guidance of the Holy Spirit.  Despite his undoubted intelligence, however, this young zealot seemed blind to the fact that the partnership he later forged in Geneva between church and state (as Luther also did) was a repeat of one of Papal Rome's major errors and the very antithesis of Christ's life and teaching. The remnants of that error still plague Europe today in the form of state churches and the United Kingdom now has an incredible record of successive heretics installed as 'Archbishop' of Canterbury.

One of the horrendous basics of Calvin's religious system was an extremist view of God's sovereignty that denied the human will, considered the church to be God's kingdom on earth, and that foreknowledge was the same as predestination (views inspired by Augustine's writings).  The outcome of this slavish adoration of Augustine resulted in Calvin viewing God as the author of every event, including all sin (a view that Luther also took into his works).  Out of this extreme view of God's sovereignty came Calvin's understanding of predestination and, following the teaching of Augustine, the belief that, in eternity past, God decided to save only a fraction of the human race and consigned the rest to eternal torment - simply because it pleased Him to do so.

Calvin's error makes his doctrine closely resemble that of Muhammad's false doctrine of 'Fatalism' in his equally demon-inspired Qur'an.  Equally demon-inspired?  Sadly, considering the incredible speed at which Calvin produced his
Institutes, we know that the demonically led sci-fi writer, L.  Ron Hubbard, produced written work in the same manner through so-called 'automatic writing' - and witnesses testified to his immense speed at the type-writer, producing a complete book in one night!  Incredible supernatural feats made possible by demonic possession are found in the Bible (ref.  Luke 8v29; 9v42) and all demonic activity has the goal of ruining human life.  Hubbard and Calvin have certainly been used by Satan to damage and destroy many lives.

Returning to the ascetics of Papal Rome, we find idiotic 'Protestants' who have been taken in by these deceivers and write:

"Single-minded, persevering faithfulness confirms the authenticity of our spirituality. The ancestors we look to for encouragement in this business - Augustine of Hippo and Julian of Norwich ... Teresa of Avila - didn't flit. They stayed" (Christianity Today, Nov. 8, 1993).

None of these had 'authentic spirituality' when tested by Scripture.  Augustine taught that the sacraments are the means of saving grace, that infant baptism is a necessity (claiming that baptism takes away the child's sin when any reasonable Bible student will recognise that we are all saved only by the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ - as we have explained in many places on this site), taught that Mary did not commit sin and promoted prayers to her, believed in purgatory and the veneration of relics, accepted the doctrine of celibacy for "priests," and laid the foundation for the filthy Inquisition, to name just a few of his heresies.
Teresa of Avila was also demon possessed and levitated like Simon Magus, made strange noises deep in her throat (as have all the demon possessed people of our experience!), experienced terrifying visions and voices, and held to Rome's sacramental gospel that works are required for salvation.

The heart of 'monastic mysticism' - where Papal "saints" centre their lives - is the Catholic Eucharist or Mass!

At the heart of monastic mysticism is the Catholic Eucharist or Mass and history reveals that papal "saints" always centred their lives around it. Catherine of Siena lived at times only on the wine and wafer of the Mass. Catherine of Genoa was so devoted to the Mass that she received it daily. Julian of Norwich could observe only one thing from the lone little window in her cell, and that was the Mass. Many of the mystics claimed to have had wonderful experiences during the Mass. Beatrijs of Nazareth, a 13th century Cistercian nun, claims that she saw Jesus on the altar with His arms outstretched and was united with Him, "heart to heart." Teresa of Avila was also devoted to the Mass, calling it the "Most Holy Sacrament" and believing that the consecrated wafer is Christ.

Scripture clearly shows the view of 'the Mass' is thoroughly erroneous because Jesus was standing in front of His disciples in His literal human body when He said:

1 Corinthians 11:23-25 - For I received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which he was betrayed took bread; and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said,
This is my body, which is for you: this do in remembrance of me. In like manner also the cup, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood: this do, as often as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

And likewise compare:

Matthew 26:25-28 - ... And
as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it; and he gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins.

Many of these deceived papists had their visions and raptures during Mass and we have testimonies from many Papal Roman Catholics who were saved and born-again Christians and, being now filled with the spirit, discerned the demonic presence at the Mass!  As we have easily shown, the Catholic Mass is not a mere remembrance of Christ's death - as Jesus proclaimed - but they have made it into a fake re-sacrifice of Christ by declaring that the consecrated host of the Mass
IS Christ.  As we have shown elsewhere, by a false pseudo-science called 'transubstantiation', Christ is worshipped idolatrously as the host.  This insult to God results in Satan taking over what is a false 'Sacrament' - every bit as false as the 'golden calf god' (Exodus 32v4-7) that corrupted Israel - and demonically mimics the true sacrament!  This deceiving action forms a major part of Catholic monastic 'spirituality' and is proven by the many ludicrously un-Scriptural claims made by the devotees.

Similar heresies to Julian's were uttered by John of the Cross who wrote:
"My beloved [God] is the high mountains, and the lovely valley forests, unexplored islands, rushing rivers" (Timothy Freke, The Spiritual Canticle: The Wisdom of the Christian Mystics, p60).

Francis of Assisi was blasphemously titled "the second Christ" by Pope Pius XI!

Hagiography ...

This type of work, made up of writings that comment on the lives, works, and sanctity of saints are notorious for gross exaggerations and even outright lies - as so many e-mails to us from Papal Roman Catholics prove!

For example, Francis of Assisi was a man so revered by his contemporaries that some designated him "the second Christ" - and this title was eventually made official by Pope Pius XI.  It does not seem to bother papists that this is blasphemy!

How Mary and 'saints' were elevated into a greatly magnified role despite the utter lack of Scriptural support!

Medieval times were characterised by Papal Rome's extreme devotion to 'the saints' and Mary and every aspect of this blatant idolatry is impossible to record accurately because of the proliferation of innumerable local saints, some of whom were totally legendary.  The birth of the utter credulity and superstition which characterizes Papal Roman Catholics is evidenced by papist zeal for collecting relics, reports of frivolous miracles, incredibly inflated hagiography, and the divorce of piety from ethics.
Mary, Mother of Jesus, became Mother of God and the seriousness of this error and the importance of recognising the fine distinction between being Mother of the Son of God and the Son of Man, rather than Mother of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is still lost on most lay people!  Thus Mary was elevated into an un-Scriptural and greatly magnified role in piety as Beautiful Virgin, Merciful Mother, and powerful Queen of Heaven and Earth who could command even her Son - despite the complete lack of any Scriptural evidence for these titles.  Conviction grew that she ruled the kingdom of mercy in face of the severe justice of Christ.  All of this occurred at a time when the Latin liturgy and scholastic theology became ever more remote from ordinary people's experience and their daily life was a constant struggle not helped by the long held practice of Papal Rome of demanding money or goods from families to pay for prayers and Masses for the dead.  Part of the cunning plan of Papal Rome was presenting Mary as a more human mediator who would be a 'gentle mother' and closer to ordinary people and unworthy sinners than the Perfect Saviour and Judge, the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God.  Does a Perfect Saviour and Judge require any 'joint Mediatrix' who is a created human being who confessed her sin and is therefore capable of sinning even should she be called on to 'assist her Son'?  That any man should so foolishly insult a vessel chosen by God, by completely ignoring Scriptures' description of all her attributes, reveals Papal Rome's ignorance of theology and arrogant nature.

For the first thousand years of Papal Rome's history deceased believers who were to be honoured in a special way, or declared 'saints', was decided more or less spontaneously by the people and their bishops in different locales.  Then, in the tenth century, bishops in council at the Lateran in Rome involved the pope officially in this decision for the first time.  Papal participation then grew to the point where, by the thirteenth century, naming new saints (canonizing them, or inscribing them on the list or canon of officially recognized holy people) was restricted to the papacy alone.  In spite of the efforts of some bishops and theologians to curb abuses, these did continue, becoming part of the late medieval distortion of the gospel criticized by the 'Protestant Reformers' in the sixteenth century.

The theological leaders of the Reformation did not turn against the saints or Mary in themselves - they knew Scripture better than the popes ever did and Luther, for example, wrote movingly of the community of saints (revealing how Papal Rome still affected his reasoning) and penned a commentary on the Magnificat, which described Mary as a woman of faith and "the foremost example of the grace of God" (Martin Luther, "
Commentary on the Magnificat," in Luther's Works, ed. Jaroslav Pelikan; St. Louis: Concordia, 1953, 21:295-355). The historic Apology of the Augsburg Confession shows how the 'Reformed' Lutherans limited their veneration of the saints by expressing it in three ways: thanking God for them, letting faith be strengthened by them, and imitating their example where appropriate.  But the 'Reformers' limited their un-Scriptural reverence by forbidding invocation (calling upon the saints for their prayers and favours).  Not only is there no Scriptural warrant for this practice, but it dangerously detracts from Christ as the sole Mediator (which 1 Timothy 2v5 clearly declares) between the human race and God. In response, the Council of Trent, while giving regulatory authority over the cult of the saints to bishops in order to correct abuses, declared that it is "good and useful" to thank God for the saints and to ask them for their prayers, thus insisting on the legitimacy of invocation.  Luther is credited by those of unorthodox belief with a prophecy that, when the saints were no longer thought to give people benefits, they would be left to rest unmolested in their graves (Luther, Smalkald Articles, part 2:2, 28, in The Book of Concord, Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1959, 297).

Papal Catholics did no more than hold egregious abuses slightly in check and continued to venerate the saints through old and new practices while polemics continued until, in 1854, Pius IX defined the dogma of the immaculate conception, which declared that from the first instant of her conception, by the grace of God and the merits of Jesus Christ, Mary was preserved free from original sin (DS 2803).  Then, in 1950, Pius XII defined the dogma of the assumption, which declared that after her life on earth, Mary was assumed body and soul into the glory of heaven (DS 3903).  Despite the complete absence of Scriptural support these inventions resulted in new 'true' devotions arrived in Papal Rome, apparitions of Mary multiplied, and new places of pilgrimage such as Lourdes and Fatima attracted millions, while Rome's 'theologians' tried to invent a theology of Mary as 'mediatrix of grace' and even 'co-redemptrix'.

Come the Second Vatican Council (1962-65), Papal Rome was well aware of the inroads the 'Ecumenical Movement' had made into changing centuries of extreme suspicion and rejection of the veneration of the saints in the churches of the Reformation (in all but the most sacramental/'High Anglican' churches which had long succumbed to these heresies)!  Fuelled by the patristic and liturgical renewals already under way, allied with damage caused by the 'Ecumenical Movement' and the weakening of true Biblical faith in 'Protestantism', Vatican II produced the first extended teaching on the saints and Mary ever given by a council of Papal Rome.  By deciding to locate this teaching in the Constitution on the Church and to apply its insight in the practical 'norms' of the Constitution on the Liturgy, the council made the direction for subsequent Catholic theology and practice perfectly clear, as well as the goal of Papal Rome to found the World Religion of Anti-Christ headed by the Popes (which genuine Christian prophets have foretold for two thousand years).

Basil the Great and his un-Biblical works-salvation 'ascetical theology' which highly influenced monasticism!

Ascetical Theology...

While the practice of prayer, coupled with meaningful reflection, are definitely part of the devout and disciplined Christian life the difference between being guided by the Holy Spirit who will lead you 'into all truth' (John 14:26; 16:7ff. etc.), as Jesus promised, is very different from following false teachings (such as those of Papal Rome) and then being deceived by a spiritual guide (demonic) sent by Satan.  Testing 'the spirits' (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22; 1 John 4:1) is clearly not followed by Papal Rome as can easily be discerned by examining the lives and practices of individuals and communities in orders such as the Benedictines, Carmelites, Carthusians, Dominicans, Franciscans, and Jesuits.  Spirituality involves theological (including liturgical), historical, and social elements which are judged against Scriptural truth, but Papal Rome has reversed this process as can easily be seen by the way they appeal to 'Tradition' and weld on spiritual practices from other religions (such as 'praying the Rosary', flagellation, goddess worship, etc.).  The errors Papal Rome absorbed from Eastern religion is easily seen, particularly in their so-called theology, which differs from orthodox Christian theology and gives primacy to the leading of their 'guru' (the individual pope) and this has consequences to every part of their church organisation, from spirituality to theology itself since spirituality is viewed as theology "from within."

Basil the Great was responsible for two works that were part of his highly regarded ascetical theology and which  became highly influential in Eastern and Western monasticism. The Moral Rules (
Regulae Morales or Moralia) composed by him in 358-359, contains 80 rules, each supported by a quotation from the Bible. The second and more important treatise is the Asceticon, a collection of questions and answers on monastic life. The shorter version of the Asceticon was used by St. Theodore of Studios to establish the 'normal' monastic life.  The more widely used form of the Asceticon, known as 'the Vulgate' or the Great Asceticon, was compiled in the sixth century.  In this version, the questions and answers are divided into 55 detailed rules or principles and 313 short rules giving instruction on the application of these rules to monastic life.  In the Middle Ages, the Great Asceticon was expanded by the addition of an ascetical constitution and a treatise on baptism and hours were detailed for liturgical prayers, manual, and other types of work and chores. Poverty and chastity were also enjoined and the monks were also required to care for the poor.

St. John of the Cross (A.D. 1542-91) was born in Fontiveros, Spain, and was ordained into the Carmelites in A.D. 1567.  In A.D. 1572, St. Teresa called him to Avila to minister at the 'Convent of the Incarnation' and, because of his involvement in an ecclesiastical dispute, he was imprisoned in Toledo.  During this time, he experienced visions and wrote
Dark Night of the Soul which had a central theme - that the goal of the human soul is union with God. The process involved may include spiritual darkness and despair, which is claimed to be the first stage of spiritual progress.  He did not locate sin in earthly pleasures themselves but wrote:  "What possess and harm the soul are not the things of the world but rather the will and desire for them" (Magill, Masterpieces of Christian Literature, p409) and the end result is said to be that the "Supernatural being, communicated by love and grace, overcomes the dark night of the soul."  (ibid.)  Papal Rome has proclaimed St. John of the Cross the doctor par excellence of ascetical and mystical theology.  Concerning John and "Calvinist mysticism," Fr. Louis Bouyer writes: "The most striking thing about St. John of the Cross is that he draws his teaching from exactly the same Biblical sources as Calvin and his successors, and that the dominant themes ... are just those which govern what we do not shrink from ... calling Calvinist mysticism" (Bouyer, Spirit and Forms of Protestantism, p93).  Remembering that Calvin came out of Papal Rome and created a form of 'theology' alien to orthodox Christianity which was coupled with the blood-thirsty extermination of those who opposed his will, we see the same spiritual sources at work in him as those employed by Papal Rome.

It is no surprise to find the admonition:  'Be systematically ascetical and do something for no other reason than that you would rather not do it.'

Scripture speaks very differently:

Psalm 119:11-16 -
Thy word have I laid up in my heart, That I might not sin against thee.  Blessed art thou, O Jehovah: Teach me thy statutes. With my lips have I declared all the ordinances of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, As much as in all riches. I will meditate on thy precepts, And have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

The orthodox Christian sees nothing but pleasure and rejoicing in meditating (not in the manner of Eastern religions!) on God's Word - which is very different from the world of Papal Rome that so many hundreds of thousands have witnessed - both those who escaped the cult of Rome into the freedom of free and full salvation in the the Lord Jesus Christ and those millions who died in the evil pogroms and Inquisitions!

God said His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) - not for lack of mystical 'Lectio Divina'!

Lectio Divina ...

This is claimed to be a very ancient art which was once practiced by all Christians and consists of slow, contemplative praying of the Scriptures that enables the Word of God to become a means of union with God.  The principles of
lectio divina are believed to appear in some early writings around the year 220 AD and were taken up later by the monks of Papal Rome, especially those under the monastic rules of 'Saints' Pachomius, Augustine, Basil, and particularly Benedictine monasteries and oblates. Together with the liturgy and daily manual labour, time set aside for lectio divina supposedly enables believers to discover an underlying 'spiritual rhythm' in their daily life. Within this 'rhythm' believers are said to discover 'an increasing ability to offer more of themselves in their relationships to the Father and to accept the embrace that God is continuously extending to us in the person of His Son Jesus Christ'.

The contemplative method of interpretation practiced by the inhabitants of monasteries during the Middle Ages was
lectio divina - a slow, prayerful, usually vocal reading of Biblical texts until they penetrate the inner being of the worshipper.  In the Middle Ages, monks daily celebrated the canonical hours, a series of six to eight liturgical services held every few hours throughout the day and the night so that the regular recitation of Scripture was interwoven into the everyday life of the monks. This led to the ingraining of Papal doctrine into the brains of the indoctrinated 'priests' and monks and, coupled with continual meditation, prayer, and devotion focussed on specific Biblical passages (interpreted by the authorities of Papal Rome!)  the inevitable indoctrination resulted in a continual supply of subservient 'priests', monks and nuns.  It is another irony that the mystical contemplation and meditation that came out of the medieval monasteries of Papal Rome caused this form of interpretation to have a powerful impact on the life of medieval Christendom in the West and is causing damage to the spiritual lives of flabby, Biblically ignorant, 'Protestants' even today.

The dangers inherent in this kind of practice, and its astonishing similarity to transcendental meditation and other dangerous rituals, should be noted because programs and practices rife with occult methodologies and techniques have entered the work of churches and youth ministries around the country:  Taizé, Lectio Divina, The Labyrinth (prayer walk), Renovaré, guided imagery, Walk to Emmaus, Cursillo (e.g. see
http://www.anglicancursillo.co.uk/what-is-cursillo.php ) Centring Prayer, Ignatian Awareness Examen, The Jesus Prayer, and The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, to name but a handful.  Three significant reasons for the appalling growth of these and other similar activities are that:

1.  Papal Roman Catholics and 'Protestants' are generally so ignorant of Scripture that they accept almost anything that some 'big name' has said or written without having the basic Biblical knowledge to check whether God approves;
2.  these 'big names' have an inside track with established parachurch organizations;
3.  increasing numbers of ignorant 'Protestants' who do not have a clue what the 'Reformation' was about are blindly acquiring a taste for things Catholic and returning to Rome (fortunately many Catholics are also fleeing Rome)!

The pursuit of mystical experiences all come from the same source and the goal is to free the mind and empower oneself - not to follow the God of the Bible faithfully.  The Christian should only use the genuine Scriptures to pursue the knowledge of God, wisdom, and holiness through the objective meaning of the text with the aim of transforming the mind according to truth.
God said His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6), not for lack of mystical, personal encounters with Him.

Biblical words selected for 'contemplative prayer' are not selected for the purpose of attaining objective understanding because the "contemplator" has almost no interest in the meaning, grammatical use or context of the verses, which simply become a mechanism to aid in listening for 'subjective communication from God'.  It should be obvious (especially for genuine Christians!) that this is not how the Bible instructs believers to learn or teach the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. Furthermore, 'contemplative' concepts reject doctrine as a basis for knowing God and for receiving His salvation. Many of the movement's "spiritual masters" blame Western rationalism (with its penchant for reason and emphasis upon words - which are both strong Biblical concepts!) for nearly destroying "our ability to intuitively experience our Creator."

'Lectio Divina' is derived from the source of occultism throughout the ages - Eastern religions!

While the 'contemplative movement' spawned anew upon an ignorant 'Protestant' church is loaded with anti-Biblical philosophies, it results in serious potential for demon involvement because its very  methodologies are derived from the source of occultism throughout the ages - Eastern religions.  A tutorial of this movement is
The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a primer for learning occult visualization (hailed by shamans as the most potent method for contacting spirit entities).  In one of dozens of such exercises Ignatius instructs the reader "to picture...Christ our Lord....standing in a lowly place in a great plain about the region of Jerusalem, His appearance beautiful and attractive"  (The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, 138 Second Prelude). To the gullible this may seem innocent and spiritual - but in reality it is impossible because no one knows what Jesus looks like and this is one of the common cards of Papal Rome - idolatry (Exodus 20:4-5) - in this case through visualisation which is a divination technique that opens the door to demonic spirits.  Former Jesuit priests who have escaped the clutches of Papal Rome recognised that this technique of Ignatius that they had practiced had demonized them - but Jesus had freed them from it after they repented of their involvement with Papal Rome and accepted the Biblical Christ (2 Cor. 11:4) as their Saviour!

We have the Scriptural example of Saul and the 'witch of Endor' (1 Samuel 28v7ff.) who was instructed to call up Samuel - but was shocked when God allowed the real Samuel to personally deliver the fate that would befall him and his sons the following day:

1 Samuel 28:18-19 - Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

This was a unique lesson for believers to learn from for the rest of history and it is utterly foolish for anyone to believe the real Jesus will respond to invented 'visualisation' techniques not given by God - no matter how sincere the practitioner believes they might be!  Through the 'imagination techniques' these occultic methods of visualizing Jesus (or any other personage) often cause these practitioners to receive more than they bargained for, just as Saul and the witch were shocked by Samuel's appearance, real demons can use the opportunity to brings the practitioner into occult bondage.

These prayer systems are "Christianized" versions of Eastern mystical meditation and, once stripped of  deliberately deceptive Biblical-sounding terminology, they are no different from the methods yogis have practiced for millennia - and the occult side effects are no different.  An instructor in the movement (who mentors two Catholic priests) gave this account of his recurring problem with his meditation breathing exercise:

The Spirit would flow into my heart and start burning and I couldn't get it to stop. The burning would proceed into my lungs and I could not take a deep breath for days, let alone do the breathing exercises....Do not get the idea that I was doing the exercises too forcefully. I wasn't. It was just that the Spirit had become unleashed and I was encouraging it to flow more forcefully than my nervous system could handle. I sought medical help but the doctor couldn't find any reason for the problem. How do you tell a doctor that the Spirit has really been rough on you lately and you want to learn how to cope with it? (
The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, 138 Second Prelude)

Anyone aware of the Scriptural descriptions of the Holy Spirit will immediately recognise that 'the spirit' involved here in these exercises is certainly not the Third Person of the Triune God!  This 'instructor' then  wrote to a 'renowned Catholic monk', author of many books on contemplative exercises and received this reply:

"He graciously wrote back explaining that although the end in God is the same....he had not felt the heat or the flowing of the Spirit exactly as I did but that he had read about these experiences when reading of the kundalini (what [Western] yogis call the fire of the Holy Spirit [Hindus actually call it the "Serpent force!"]) experiences...." (

Similar "rough" manifestations have been reported at many other scenes in pseudo-Christian activities, such as fake Christian revivals at Pensacola and Toronto, and amongst victims of hypnosis 'treatments'.

Taizé meetings (repetitive chanting, meditative silences, candle lit rooms, etc.), Walk to Emmaus,  Richard Foster (who introduced shamanic visualization to evangelicals in his bestselling book,
Celebration of Discipline) and his contemplative spirituality-promoting organization, Renovaré, should also be avoided as well as those who act in a reference or speaking capacity, such as Fr. Henri Nouwen, Fr. Michael Scanlon, Eugene Peterson, or Tony Campolo.

Rome claims purity in the church while allowing many to follow 'lectio divina' 'doctrines of demons' to Eastern religions!

It is ironic that Papal Roman Catholics try to insist upon the purity of their church when so many of them have gone via the path of
lectio divina to interfaith dialogue, Buddhism, Hinduism, universalism, pantheism, panentheism, goddess theology and other heresies - and this is clearly seen in the opinions of John Paul II (see our previous articles on his errors), Benedict XVI, and present incumbent, Francis.  As part of 'contemplative mysticism' practitioners range from those of the past, including Francis of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, and today's deceivers, former Franciscan 'priest' Brennan Manning, Thomas Merton, Richard Foster, and Dallas Willard.

A DVD titled 'Be Still And Know That I Am God' was released by deceivers who promote
lectio divina/ 'contemplative mysticism' and teach that this state of mind is reached through a repetitive practice (i.e., a mantra).  Listed in the acknowledgements of 'Be Still...' is Brennan Manning, a man who popularized the idea that the Bible is not to be taken literally and claimed that any who do uphold Bible standards are Pharisees and hypocrites!  He was also caught in an utterly foolish lie a few years ago - one which is not easily explained away, except by extremely worrying causes, particularly demonic possession ( see this page ).

Manning describes the methods used in these occultic practices in his book 'Signature of Jesus', in this manner:

"[T]he first step in faith is
to stop thinking about God at the time of prayer. The second step, without moving your lips, repeat the sacred word [or phrase] inwardly, slowly, and often. "

The third step concerns what to do when inevitable distractions come.
The answer is to simply return to listening to your sacred word. Gently return your mind to your sacred word.

You can search the Bible in vain for the mention of this '
sacred word' - or of any instruction from God to seek a 'sacred word [or phrase]' that you should seek and then repeat in any form whatever, never mind the occultic manner described by Manning.

This kind of 'prayer' is common in the occultic Eastern religions and proves to be the most common way to silence the mind, effectively 'putting the mind in neutral'.  Hindus have practiced this type of meditation for centuries.  Without this 'mindless' repetition our own thoughts constantly get in the way because we were not designed by God to shut off our thoughts, but to be aware of our actions and to react to Him and other people around us and - particularly - to learn to recognise our sins and make our conscience fully aware of the results of our thoughts and actions.  Similar dangerous results from 'emptying the mind'/'putting the mind in neutral'/'altered state of mind' have resulted in drug takers (including alcoholics) who make themselves almost totally vulnerable and wide open to demonic attack and even total possession while their mind is effectively paralyzed.  We have personally witnessed the resultant terror suffered by these people who can only be set free by Jesus the Nazarene, Saviour Son of God!

Those who indulge in lectio divina or 'contemplative mysticism' believe that you can hear God speaking in your mind but, as we have already proven, this is not a Biblical practice. God has spoken to many individuals throughout the Bible but never by a any kind of meditative practice initiated by man. It is a dangerous practice and the results are nothing but detrimental.

Even Richard Foster admits to this danger in his book 'Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home':

"I also want to give a word of precaution. In the silent contemplation of God we are entering deeply into the spiritual realm, and there is such a thing as a supernatural guidance? While the Bible does not give us a lot of information on that, there are various orders of spiritual beings,
and some of them are definitely not in co-operation with God and his way!  But for now I want to encourage you to learn and practice prayers of protection."

Foster also states:

"At the outset I need to give a word of warning, a little like the warning labels on medicine bottles.
Contemplative prayer is not for the novice.  I do not say this about any other form of prayer"

Perhaps the deluded practitioners of these occultic methods can show us where the Bible warns Christian believers of any form of Biblical prayer that requires 'warning labels' like those 'on medicine bottles' - and why there should be any kind of danger from our Heavenly Father, Loving Saviour Jesus, and gentle Holy Spirit?  And where in the Bible is there a description of different '
form(s) of prayer'?
